Unmasking Misinformation: Journalist’s Quest for Verified Truth (International Edition)

The Journalists as Fact Checkers workshop, organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Africa for the Womentorship Champions, recently, was an unexpected catalyst for my growth as a female human rights defender. It effortlessly merged with my duties as both a journalist and an advocate, highlighting how journalism serves as a crucial act of service against misinformation. In Zimbabwe, where confirming straightforward facts such as fatality counts from road accidents can be difficult because of restricted access to data, fact-checking goes beyond being just part of one’s job; it transforms into a nuanced but important mode of defiance. One powerful takeaway was learning about “lateral reading,” which pushed me to go deeper than just skimming content and succumbing to click temptations. This change in mindset has provided me with a persistent critical outlook, examining each headline through the meticulous gaze of an investigator. Rather than taking information at ...

Soap Star Daniel Cosgrove Joins 'General Hospital' in Exciting New Role

A previous resident of Pine Valley (as well as Salem and Springfield) is set to relocate to Port Charles: NewsBlog has verified that this is happening. All My Children and Days of Our Lives vet Daniel Cosgrove is joining General Hospital.

Cosgrove is anticipated to make his first appearance on March 21 with the ABC soap opera. He will take on the character of Ezra Boyle.

They inquired if I would be keen on portraying this new character, and I responded with an unequivocal yes, Cosgrove told TV Insider, Which initially revealed the information. "They gave me some details about him, and mentioned one or two colleagues I would be collaborating with, but they were quite secretive. As far as I can tell, I've likely been shooting for around a month and a half now."

Cosgrove began his career in the soap opera genre in the early 2000s by portraying Bill Lewis. The Guiding Light. In 1996, he joined All My Children to play Scott Chandler and also spent time on As the World Turns like Chris Hughes, and as Aiden Jennings on Days of Our Lives.

He has additionally served as a journeyman actor in prime time television series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, The Good Wife, The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, Blue Bloods and The Equalizer.

“I used the actors' strike as an opportunity for a break," Cosgrove shared with TV Insider. "During that time, I secured a genuine position teaching acting and even started selling Jeeps. It felt like I might be leaving the industry behind. But then all of this came along, igniting a renewed passion within me—a deep sense of appreciation, excitement, and joy. Honestly, getting here much earlier than required has become my routine because every single day feels like such a gift."

As for what to expect from his character, Cosgrove said, “He is part of the political storyline and he's a consummate politician. At first, he seems to be aligning with Drew Quartermaine [Cameron Mathison] and there's some shenanigans going on, but the character is kind of mixing it up with a lot of the cast, from Genis Francis, Mayor Collins, to the Quartermaines, to just kind of creating a little bit of a thorn in the side to some of the good folk of Port Charles. He comes across as maybe a little arrogant and full of himself, but it's definitely been fun so far. I'm working with such a fantastic cast."
